Set in the tranquil fishing village of Punta Allen on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, Ascension Bay Lodge offers a memorable saltwater fly fishing experience in the heart of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. The fishing at Ascension Bay Lodge can be exceptional, with primary target species including permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook, jacks, barracuda, and snapper. To reach the lodge, guests fly into Cancun International Airport, overnight there, and then transfer by road to the dock for an hour-long boat ride to Punta Allen. Fishing is done from traditional Mexican pangas, with two guides per boat—one senior and one junior guide. While most fishing is from the boat, there are areas for wading, and the diverse fishing environments of Ascension Bay, from open water to mangroves, offer a variety of interesting fishing situations.
