With countless beautiful, remote and productive waterways, Iceland is a destination on many fishermen’s bucket list for good reason.
The country is a unique combination of a modern society with vast areas of unspoilt and sparsely populated countryside. There is a wide choice of places to fish with comfort lodges and facilities close at hand.
We are pleased to offer prime Icelandic trout, sea trout and salmon fishing on the following rivers / beats:
Grímsá, Laxá í Dölum, Svalbarđsá, Skuggi, Brynjudalsá, Jökla, Minnivallalaekur and West Ranga .
The Grímsá is a medium-sized river in the midwest region of Borgarfjordur, which is Iceland's most prolific salmon area. Often referred to as “The Queen of Rivers”, it is an important and impressive river.
Year after year, this river has placed among the best in Iceland both in terms of total annual catch and in terms of captures per rod day. The total 10-year average catch is 1,226 salmon during an 80-day season.
Svalbarđsá is in the very north-east corner of Iceland in some of the most beautiful scenery of all the country. Accessed via daily domestic flights from Reykjavik to Akurei, Svalbarđsá is more easily reached than would appear the case.
Situated at the confluence of two rivers, Skuggi offers anglers a unique experience and boasts a range of opportunities. The convergence of the rivers creates intriguing currents and eddies, providing good habitat for a variety of species.
Brynjudalsá is a charming small river only about 40 minutes from Reykjavík. The river has a good stock of salmon and sea trout. Brynjudalsá is fished with single-handed rods, having the salmon close by and often in full view.
The Jökla river system runs a 100km course from the eastern slopes of the Vatnajokull glacier to the sea on the east coast. The fishery offers a great variety of both big pools as well as small streams and tributaries over 50 km of water for 6 to 8 rods.
Meandering through farmland at the foothills of Mt Hekla, the 7km Minnivallalaekur River, or ‘Minni’, is a dry-fly angler’s dream. The Minni is a quality over quantity fishery; wild brown trout average 3-4lbs, with double figure fish caught each season.
The West Ranga is located approximately 60 minutes’ drive from Reykjavik and is one of the best-known salmon rivers in Iceland. Not only for its beauty and great variety of fishing pools, but also for the high volume of salmon caught every year in the 10-20lb range
