The Malselv is a large river in the north of Norway that has been fished by the British since the late 19th century. It is similar in size to the Tay and can produce good catches of salmon.
The Malselv River effectively is in two major sections: below and above the mighty Malselvfossen waterfall. These falls, 16 miles from the sea, form a barrier to migrating salmon. The water above the falls is the pick of the fly water and can fish well from the start of July and through August.
You will fish with local guides who know the river intimately. They can transport you to / from the beats and help assemble lunch each day. The river has wonderful fly water and given good conditions can produce good catches of fish up to and over 10 kgs.
Suggested tackle is 14 – 15ft rods paired with large arbour reels with 200 metres of 30lb backing. You should bring a variety of line / tip densities.
The Rundhaug Gjestegård hotel has been welcoming salmon fishermen since 1902. It is full of charm and character and guests can look forward to excellent food produced with the finest local ingredients.
We work with the hotel to secure fishing licences on the best local beats.
Suggested Package: 7 nights on full board, 6 days’ guided fishing and car hire.
