The Åelva River, often called Norway's “Secret River,” flows through unspoiled wilderness 220 kms north of Trondheim. It is renowned for its runs of Atlantic salmon and sea trout. The river’s gorges and waterfalls create a natural challenge, resulting in powerful fish, with salmon weighing up to 40 pounds regularly spotted in its pools. Sea trout thrive here too, with a notable 25lb fish caught in 2017.
The fishing is varied, with stretches ideal for sight fishing with single- or small double-handed rods. Casting a dry fly and watching a salmon rise to take it is a memorable experience. Elsewhere, the river has open runs and bigger pools, perfect for spey casting to cover key lies. The Åelva offers world-class fishing opportunities in stunning surroundings, with Horstad Gård Lodge providing a comfortable base and superb local meals.
The lodge have 24 pools over 17km of river, that are fished on rotation by 8 daily rods.
Includes: Return international flights, all transfers, 7 night full board stay at Horstad Gard Lodge in a single occupancy room, 6 days guided fishing on the Åelva River, 1 night in Trondheim on bed & breakfast.
